EDDIE HOWE has admonished Anthony Gordon for his furious reaction to being substituted in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win at Brentford – but insists his relationship with the forward has not suffered any long-term damage.
Having been brought on as a half-time substitute against the Bees, Gordon was clearly unhappy when he was taken off in stoppage time to accommodate the arrival of Matt Ritchie.
The January signing exchanged words with Howe on the touchline, with coach Graeme Jones subsequently speaking to him in an attempt to calm him down.
Gordon joined his team-mates on the pitch after the final whistle as they went over to celebrate with Newcastle’s travelling fans, and Howe’s arms were draped around his shoulder as the pair chatted amicably on their way back to the tunnel.
Howe will not be taking things any further, but has warned Gordon he will not tolerate a similar situation in the future.
He said: “I’ve got no problem. Anthony is a passionate boy. He wants to do well, but there was seconds left on the clock and we wanted to get Matty on because Anthony was holding his ankle.
“He just needs to control his emotions in that moment, but there are no problems.”
