How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 2-1 win at Brentford?
BRENTFORD (5-3-2):
Raya 6; Hickey 4 (Mbuemo 73), Jansson 6 (Zanka 17, 5), Pinnock 5, Mee 5 (Wissa 81), Henry 6; Dasilva 6 (Baptiste 73), Norgaard 5 (Janelt 81), Jensen 6; TONEY 8, Schade 6.
Subs (not used): Strakosha (gk), Roerslev, Damsgaard, Ghoddos.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
8 POPE: Followed up his superb first-half penalty save with an even better stop to keep out Toney’s second-half header
7 Trippier: His leadership helped Newcastle hold things together when they were under the cosh – also delivered some dangerous set-pieces
6 Schar: Was found wanting in the build-up to Brentford’s second penalty and was stretched on occasion
5 Botman: Clattered into Schade with a reckless challenge to concede the second spot-kick and wasn’t his usual composed self
6 Burn: His lack of mobility restricted Newcastle’s attacking options down the left, but he defended stoutly in the second half
7 Guimaraes: Helped get Newcastle onto the front foot in the second half with his slide-rule passing
5 Longstaff: Was unable to get into the game in the first half as he found himself completely bypassed by Brentford’s approach play
6 Willock: Looked more threatening when stationed on the left after the half-time reshuffle – got forward effectively late on
5 Murphy: Wasn’t really a factor in the final third in the first half and was hauled off at the half-time interval
8 Isak: Was completely transformed as he filled the ‘number ten’ role in the second half – won it with a superb strike into the top corner
7 Joelinton: Sparked the second-half revival with the run and cross-shot that led to Newcastle’s deflected equaliser
Subs:
8 Wilson (for Longstaff, 46): Made a huge difference as he linked effectively with Isak – set up the Swede’s goal and might well have scored himself
7 Gordon (for Murphy, 46): Provided a much-needed attacking spark, but was clearly furious when he was taken off in stoppage time
Lascelles (for Isak, 86)
Anderson (for Willock, 86)
Ritchie (for Gordon, 90)
(not used): Dubravka (gk), Dummett, Manquillo, Targett.
Man Of The Match: NICK POPE – In a chaotic game, his two saves from Toney proved absolutely crucial.
