How did the players fare in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest?
NOTTM FOREST (4-2-3-1):
NAVAS 7; Aurier 6, Niakhate 6, Felipe 5, Lodi 5; Yates 5 (Freuler 58, 5), Shelvey 6 (Scarpa 90); Johnson 5, Gibbs-White 6, Dennis 6 (Williams 79); Ayew 4 (Surridge 79).
Subs (not used): Hennessey (gk), Worrall, Colback, Toffolo, Danilo.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
7 Pope: Was left with no chance by Botman’s back-pass and made an important late stop to deny Johnson
7 Trippier: Almost set up a goal with a great first-half free-kick and was always on top of things defensively
7 Schar: Shook off the effects of a nasty early tackle to produce a typically assured and dominant defensive display
5 Botman: Produced an uncharacteristic error to hand Dennis a goal on a plate, but deserves credit for refusing to let it affect him
7 Burn: Did well against the dangerous Johnson down the Newcastle left, even though he had to be careful after a first-half booking
7 Guimaraes: Was always looking to pull the strings from the heart of the Magpies midfield and came close with a shot that was turned over
8 Longstaff: Kept on powering Newcastle forward and was extremely unfortunate to be ruled offside when Anderson found the net
8 Willock: Caused the Forest defence a succession of problems and delivered the cross for Isak’s first goal
8 Murphy: Produced one of his best displays in a Newcastle shirt as he repeatedly broke at the Forest back four
9 ISAK: This is what Newcastle paid £63m for – scored both of his side’s goals and was excellent from start to finish
4 Saint-Maximin: Looked worryingly devoid of confidence and ideas and was hauled off at the half-time interval
Subs:
8 Anderson (for Saint-Maximin, 46): Made a massive difference down the Newcastle left and was extremely unlucky to see his headed effort chalked off
Ritchie (for Murphy, 84)
(not used): Dubravka (gk), Dummett, Lewis, Targett, Manquillo, Lascelles, Wilson.
Man Of The Match: ALEXANDER ISAK – Newcastle’s club-record signing more than lived up to his billing with a brilliant attacking display.
