How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 2-1 win over Wolves?
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
6 Pope: Made two crucial second-half saves, but was extremely shaky with the ball at his feet and might well have conceded a penalty
5 Trippier: Came close with a second-half free-kick, but erred badly when he set up Hwang for Wolves’ equaliser
7 Schar: Dominated in the air and kept Jimenez quiet for most of the game as the physical side of his game came to the fore
8 Botman: Produced another assured and composed display as he swept up whatever Wolves’ creative players threw at him
7 Burn: Put in an effective defensive shift down Newcastle’s left and was a factor at the back post from his side’s corners
7 Guimaraes: Slid a couple of excellent passes through the Wolves defence and came within inches of scoring with his header that hit the bar
6 Longstaff: Covered a lot of ground at the heart of midfield and battled away gamely against a technically-impressive Wolves side
7 Willock: Got into the box on a number of occasions and produced a fine pass to set up Almiron for the winner
6 Murphy: Attacked with purpose following his recall to the side, although the quality of his deliveries was mixed
8 ISAK: Made a massive difference leading the Newcastle line – never stopped running and headed home his goal impressively
6 Saint-Maximin: Saw plenty of the ball in the first half, but wasn’t really able to deliver a telling ball into the area
Subs:
5 Wilson (for Isak, 68): Might struggle to force his way back into the side now Isak has grasped his opportunity
7 Almiron (for Saint-Maximin, 68): Produced the perfect response to being dropped as he stroked home Newcastle’s winner
Ritchie (for Murphy, 84)
(not used): Dubravka (gk), Dummett, Targett, Manquillo, Lascelles, Anderson.
WOLVES (4-2-3-1):
SA 7; Semedo 6, Dawson 6, Kilman 6, Jonny 5 (Ait-Nouri 68, 5); Neves 6 (Nunes 68, 5), Lemina 6; Traore 4 (Neto 46, 6), Moutinho 7 (Collins 74), Podence 6 (Hwang 68, 6); Jimenez 6.
Subs (not used): Bentley (gk), Cunha, Toti, Gomes.
Man Of The Match: ALEXANDER ISAK – The Newcastle striker certainly made the most of his promotion to the starting side.
