MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1):

7 Steffen: Didn’t have a lot to do, but made an important second-half save as he turned Paterson’s low effort around the post

7 Smith: Kept things tight on the right of Boro’s back four and tended to use the ball effectively when he had it

8 McNair: Returned to the side after recovering from concussion, and delivered a composed display in his protective mask

8 Lenihan: Another rock-solid showing from the central defender, who never allowed Swansea’s forward to get behind him

7 Giles: A couple of first-half crosses failed to find their intended target, but was always a threat down the Boro left

7 Howson: Outplayed Swansea’s midfielders and provided the platform that enabled his fellow midfielders to push forward

7 Hackney: Continues to ooze class and composure at the heart of the Boro midfield – is developing into quite some player

7 McGree: Made a series of telling breaks down the right and won the penalty that enabled Akpom to make things safe

8 Akpom: Another excellent attacking display was capped with his 22nd league goal of the season, which came from the penalty spot

8 RAMSEY: Caused a succession of problems with his pace and trickery, and showed commendable composure to stroke home the opener
