ANTHONY GORDON makes his first Newcastle United start in today's Premier League game with Manchester City - but Fabian Schar is missing from the Magpies squad.
Schar suffered a head injury during a collision in last weekend's Carabao Cup final defeat at Wembley, and while the Swiss centre-half continued playing and completed the game, he is understood to have struggled with the after-effects of the problem this week.
As a result, he has not been considered for selection for today's game, with Jamaal Lascelles returning to the heart of the back four for what will be only his second Premier league start of the season.
Gordon comes in for Allan Saint-Maximin, with the French winger dropping down to the substitutes' bench.
Newcastle's other change comes in goal, with Nick Pope returning to the starting side. Martin Dubravka is on the bench, with Loris Karius dropping out of the squad after his Wembley appearance last weekend.
MAN CITY (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Akanji, Dias, Ake; Walker, Rodri; Foden, de Bruyne, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland.
Subs: Ortega, Phillips, Stones, Laporte, Alvarez, Silva, Mahrez, Palmer, Lewis.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Lascelles, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Longstaff, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Gordon.
Subs: Dubravka (gk), Targett, Manquillo, Ritchie, Anderson, Willock, Murphy, Saint-Maximin, Isak.
