DARLINGTON MOWDEN PARK will go in search of their fourth consecutive win in National One tomorrow afternoon when they welcome Plymouth Albion to the North-East.
With just two places separating the sides in the table, Mowden fans will be hoping their side will continue their recent run of results as they head into the final two months of the season.
Mowden head into tomorrow's game on the back of three wins in a row, having seen off Hull, Moseley and Leeds Tykes in February.
Max Davies has been central to those results, and the second row has been happy with his side's progress in recent weeks,
"We are very pleased with our current form this month," said Davies. "It’s something we have spoken a lot about recently, to have the right mentality and to stay in the fight for the full 80 minutes.
"The home support has also been great to have and has really given us the edge in hard parts of the games.”
Davies is set to make his 50th Mowden appearance this weekend, having signed from Ealing Trailfinders in the summer of 2019.
The former England Under-20s international has been a big part of Mowden’s progression this season, missing only a handful of games this term.
"I have enjoyed my time with Darlington Mowden Park a lot so far," said the 25-year-old. "When I joined, it felt there was a great core group of players that would put the hard yards in for each other and that has shown over the years to get us through some tough times.”
Last weekend saw Mowden run out 27-25 winners over northern rivals Leeds Tykes, with Davies earning the man-of-the-match honours after scoring his side’s second try of the afternoon.
Reflecting on the round 20 win, Davies was keen to highlight the importance of getting five points from the game.
“That win was massive for us," he said. "We showed Leeds a lot of respect in the build-up to the game and ignored the league table as we knew it would be a battle and they would throw the kitchen sink at us.”
The win saw Mowden solidify their standing in eighth position, pulling them further clear of the National One relegation zone.
This weekend sees them take on Plymouth side who are ten points ahead of them in the table, a gap that Davies is keen to close.
“We know what Plymouth are about," he said. "But I think the main focus, as cliched as it sounds, is just to focus on ourselves. We know we can beat any team in the league when we are on it and we’ve shown that with some great results throughout the season.”
