Sunderland return to Championship action when they take on Rotherham United on Tuesday.

Here are all the details you need to know about the game…

WHERE IS THE GAME TAKING PLACE?

Having drawn on home soil at the weekend as Bristol City pegged them back with a stoppage-time equaliser, Sunderland are back on their travels on Tuesday as they head to the New York Stadium to take on Rotherham.

This is a rearranged game that was originally due to take place at the end of last month, but which had to be moved because Sunderland were involved in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Sunderland were 3-0 winners over Rotherham in their home game at the end of August, with Ross Stewart scoring twice and Jack Clarke also netting in a match that was Tony Mowbray’s first in charge of the Black Cats.

This will be Sunderland’s first visit to the New York Stadium since a bitterly disappointing day in October 2021 that saw Aiden McGeady sent off as the Black Cats crashed to a 5-1 defeat.

WHAT TIME IS KICK-OFF?

Tuesday’s game kicks off at 7.45pm.

ARE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE?

No – all tickets for the away sections at the New York Stadium have now sold out.

Sunderland’s players will be cheered on by a contingent of more than 2,200 travelling supporters in South Yorkshire.

IS THE GAME BEING TELEVISED OR STREAMED LIVE?

Tuesday’s game is not being televised live.

As a result, a domestic stream of the game will be available via the SAFC Live section of Sunderland’s official website.

Radio commentary will be available on BBC Radio Newcastle, and The Northern Echo’s Chief Sports Writer, Scott Wilson, will be at Rotherham providing a live blog, report, ratings, analysis and reaction.

WHAT IS SUNDERLAND’S LIKELY LINE-UP?

Lynden Gooch is set to step up his training programme this week, but the winger remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Having shuffled his pack in each of Sunderland’s last two matches, Tony Mowbray will have to decide whether to make further changes again on Tuesday.

The likes of Dennis Cirkin, Luke O’Nien, Abdoullah Ba and Alex Pritchard are all in contention for a starting spot after they were substitutes at the weekend.

Corry Evans, Ross Stewart and Elliot Embleton remain unavailable with long-term injuries that mean they are unlikely to play again this season.

Sunderland (probable, 4-2-3-1): Patterson; Hume, Ballard, Batth, Alese; O’Nien, Ba; Amad, Pritchard, Clarke; Gelhardt.

HOW ARE ROTHERHAM SHAPING UP?

Rotherham head into Tuesday’s game off the back of a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Coventry City at the weekend. The loss leaves the Millers sitting in 21st position in the Championship table, just two points clear of the relegation places.

Matty Taylor is once again expected to be without influential midfielder Ben Wiles, who has been sidelined since suffering a serious ankle injury on Boxing Day.

Sean Morrison has been ruled out for the season with a long-term issue, while Taylor must choose between Jordan Hugill or Tom Eaves in attack, assuming he sticks with the 4-5-1 formation he fielded at the weekend.

Rotherham (probable, 4-5-1): Johansson; Peltier, Hall, Humphreys, Bramall; Ogbene, Odoffin, Rathbone, Coventry, Ferguson; Hugill.
