How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 1-1 draw with West Ham?
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
6 Pope: Didn’t have much to do for most of the evening, but had no chance as West Ham finally breached the Newcastle rearguard
7 Trippier: Stopped West Ham from attacking down their left-hand side, but as has been the case in the last few games, the quality of his crossing was mixed
7 Schar: Relished the physical battle with Antonio and made some important tackles to prevent West Ham breaks
7 Botman: Was nearly always in the right place to deal with West Ham’s forwards and spread the play with some fine long-range passes
7 Burn: Put in a solid shift on the left of the Newcastle defence and tried to support Saint-Maximin in the West Ham half
7 Willock: Thought he had scored inside the opening 40 seconds and posed a threat with his breaks towards the box all evening
6 Longstaff: Played a wonderful pass to release Wilson for the opener but wasn’t really able to control the heart of midfield
8 JOELINTON: Seemed to enjoy being back in a central-midfield role – drove Newcastle forward in the second half with some powerful running
6 Almiron: Always offered himself for the ball down the Newcastle right, but wasn’t really able to threaten the West Ham goal
6 Wilson: Produced a clinical finish to open the scoring, but hesitated when he was presented with a similar chance in the second half
4 Saint-Maximin: Looked extremely rusty on his first league start since August – gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions
Subs:
7 Gordon (for Saint-Maximin, 69): Provided a fresh impetus when he was introduced for his debut and threatened with a shot that was blocked
Murphy (for Almiron, 81)
Anderson (for Willock, 81)
(not used): Dubravka (gk), Dummett, Lascelles, Lewis, Ritchie, Fraser.
WEST HAM (3-4-3):
Fabianski 6; Kehrer 5 (Johnson 46, 6), Ogbonna 7, Aguerd 7; Coufal 6 (Downes 90), Paqueta 8 (Soucek 74), RICE 9, Emerson 6; Bowen 6, Antonio 6 (Ings 80), Benrahma 6 (Fornals 74).
Subs (not used): Hegyi (gk), Anang (gk), Cresswell, Lanzini.
Man Of The Match: DECLAN RICE – The England international ran the game from the heart of midfield and was excellent in both defence and attack.
