BAILEY WRIGHT has left Sunderland to join fellow Championship side Rotherham United.
With the Black Cats having signed centre-half Joe Anderson from Everton earlier today, Wright has headed to South Yorkshire on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Australia international, who moved to the Stadium of Light on loan from Bristol City in January 2020 before completing a permanent move six months later, joins a Millers side currently sitting in 20th position in the Championship table.
Wright has started six Championship matches for Sunderland this season, and was part of the Australia squad at the recent World Cup in Qatar.
Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman said: "Bailey is the ultimate professional and he has been an outstanding member of our squad, especially over the last 18 months.
"Tony and I have had numerous conversations with him this season because his game time has been limited and he is motivated to play regularly – we agreed that if the right opportunity presented itself in January, we would not stand in his way and we believe this move is the best outcome for all parties.
"All at SAFC are grateful for Bailey’s contribution – on and off the pitch – and we wish him the best of luck.”
