How did the players fare in Newcastle's goalless draw at Crystal Palace?
CRYSTAL PALACE (4-2-3-1):
Guaita 7; Ward 6 (Clyne 71), GUEHI 7, Richards 7, Mitchell 6; Doucoure 5, Schlupp 5 (Hughes 64, 4); Ayew 4, Eze 6 (Olise 64, 5), Zaha 5 (Mateta 64, 6); Edouard 5 (Ozoh 89).
Subs (not used): Johnstone (gk), Riedewald, Milivojevic, Morrison.
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
8 POPE: Produced the moment of the game when he tipped Mateta’s second-half effort over the bar, and was always rock solid
7 Trippier: Kept the dangerous Zaha quiet, but the standard of his set-piece deliveries was decidedly mixed
8 Schar: Another excellent defensive performance in which never really gave the Palace forwards a sniff of a goal
7 Botman: Dominated aerially in defence, but might well feel he should have done better with the header from a corner he directed wide
8 Burn: Marked Ayew out of the game down Palace’s right-hand side and came close with a decent first-half strike
5 Guimaraes: Was a surprise selection but, while he came through the game unscathed, he didn’t look especially sharp
6 Longstaff: Covered a lot of ground at the heart of midfield but occasionally lacked composure when he was in possession
6 Willock: Caused problems down the left in the opening quarter-of-an-hour but had faded from prominence by the time he was taken off
6 Almiron: Wasn’t really his night as his couple of half-chances failed to seriously threaten Guaita in the Palace goal
5 Wilson: Had a largely frustrating night in which his undoubted effort and commitment never really looked like resulting in a goalscoring opportunity
6 Joelinton: Threatened to fashion a breakthrough down the Newcastle left, but the final ball was never quite there
Subs:
6 Isak (for Wilson, 68): Made a couple of decent breaks forward, but probably needs a full 90 minutes to really show what he can do
5 Saint-Maximin (for Willock, 68): Wasn’t really able to threaten the Palace backline in the closing stages
Murphy (for Almiron, 86)
(not used): Dubravka (gk), Lascelles, Lewis, Manquillo, Ritchie, Anderson.
Man Of The Match: NICK POPE – Newcastle’s goalkeeper ensured his side would leave London with a point as he made a superb second-half save.
