How did the players fare in Sunderland's 3-1 defeat to Swansea City?

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Patterson: Will be disappointed to have been beaten at his near post for Swansea’s third, although it was a clean strike from Cooper

6 Hume: Gave his all down Sunderland’s right-hand side, but was fighting a losing battle in the closing stages

7 Ballard: Didn’t deserve to be on a team that conceded three goals – showed commendable spirit given Swansea’s second-half dominance

3 O’Nien: Lost his head as he dived in recklessly on Cooper – the response of Swansea’s players didn’t help him, but a seasoned pro should know better

6 Gooch: Didn’t look out of place switched to the left-hand side, but had a tough afternoon as Swansea poured forward

6 Evans: Gave his all in an attempt to keep Sunderland in the game, tearing around to try to close down the Swans midfield

7 Neil: Took his goal superbly as he volleyed home and tried to keep the Black Cats on the front foot despite the numerical disadvantage in midfield

5 Roberts: Found himself sacrificed in the wake of O’Nien’s dismissal to enable Sunderland to bring on a centre-half

5 Diallo: Wasn’t an afternoon when he could really showcase his skills – but might well have had a first-half penalty

7 Clarke: Carried a threat down the left-hand side and delivered an excellent cross to help set up Neil’s goal

6 Stewart: Battled away despite being isolated for long spells – ensured Swansea’s defenders were not able to switch off

Subs:

7 BATTH (for Roberts, 22): Set up Neil’s equaliser with a headed knock-down and was extremely unlucky with the clearance that led to Swansea’s second goal

Bennette (for Clarke, 82)

Ba (for Diallo, 82)

Michut (for Evans, 82)

Dajaku (for Stewart, 82)

(not used): Bass (gk), Wright.

SWANSEA (4-2-3-1):

Benda 6; Latibeaudiere 7, Cabango 6, Darling 6, MANNING 8; Grimes 7, Allen 6 (Ntcham 76); Cooper 8 (Cundle 87), Fulton 6, Cullen 7 (Sorinola 84); Piroe 7.

Subs (not used): Fisher (gk), Wood, Naughton, Congreve.

Man Of The Match: RYAN MANNING – Swansea’s left-back effectively played as a winger for most of the game and as heavily involved in his side’s first two goals.
