How did the players fare in Newcastle United's goalless draw with Leeds United?
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
7 Pope: Didn’t have much to do, but made an important second-half save as he hurled himself to his right to keep out Rodrigo’s shot
6 Trippier: Most of Newcastle’s best moments came from his set-pieces, but the standard of his balls into the box was mixed
7 SCHAR: Never looked like being undone defensively, and came close with a couple of headers from corners
7 Botman: Dominated in the air against the Leeds attack and did not allow the opposition to get behind him
6 Burn: Was never really extended in a defensive capacity, but gave the ball cheaply on a couple of occasions as he looked to pass forward
6 Guimaraes: Suffered one of those days when a number of things he attempted failed to come off – was still always looking for the ball though
5 Longstaff: Wasted a couple of good second-half opportunities as he failed to find the target from inside the area
5 Willock: Didn’t have a lot of space in which to operate and was never really a factor in Leeds’ defensive third
6 Almiron: Couldn’t extend his remarkable recent scoring spree, but never stopped running and closing down the opposition
6 Wood: Failed to get a shot away after going round Meslier in the early stages, but held the ball up well despite some physical Leeds defending
6 Joelinton: Made some threatening breaks forward down the left-hand side, but also ran down a number of blind alleys
Subs:
5 Wilson (for Wood, 64): Couldn’t make an impact in the closing stages and picked up a cheap late booking for a push on Meslier
6 Saint-Maximin (for Willock, 64): Made a couple of threatening breaks, but was shut down before he could have a real impact
Murphy (for Almiron, 84)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Lascelles, Lewis, Manquillo, Ritchie, Anderson.
LEEDS (4-2-3-1):
Meslier 8; Ayling 6 (Kristensen 70), Koch 7, Cooper 7, Struijk 6; ADAMS 8, Forshaw 6 (Roca 46, 6); Harrison 5 (Klich 63, 6), Aaronson 5, Gnonto 6 (Summerville 70); Rodrigo 5 (Gelhardt 81).
Subs (not used): Robles (gk), Firpo, Llorente, Greenwood.
Man Of The Match: TYLER ADAMS – The Leeds midfielder successfully shut down Guimaraes and was nearly always in the right place to snuff out Newcastle’s attacks.
