THE all-North East FA Trophy tie between Spennymoor Town and Darlington has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.
The third-round game was due to have taken place at Spennymoor’s Brewery Field ground tomorrow lunchtime.
However, despite protective covers having been deployed, the sub-zero temperatures meant it was decided to make an early pitch inspection this afternoon.
That inspection has resulted in the game being postponed, with a new date set for Tuesday, December 20 (7.45pm).
A statement on Spennymoor’s official website said: “Saturday’s FA Trophy tie against Darlington has been postponed following a Friday afternoon pitch inspection at The Brewery Field and will now be played on Tuesday instead.
“Ground staff have left the playing surface covered in a bid to protect it from plummeting temperatures but unfortunately frost has penetrated and made areas of the pitch unplayable.
“As a result, it was postponed following a Friday afternoon pitch inspection, and the third round tie will now take place on Tuesday 20th December (7.45pm kick-off).
“Fans are advised that tickets purchased for the original date will remain valid for Tuesday, whilst sales will now continue to Moors fans until 5pm on Monday. Refunds are also available for supporters who are unable to attend the new date.”
