Mike Ashley's Frasers Group have served an eviction notice to Coventry City FC after the group bought the Coventry Building Society Arena - where the club plays its home games - last month.
The stadium was bought by the Frasers Group last month after its three holding companies, owned by Wasps rugby club, went into administration on 18th October.
Mr Ashley, who owned Newcastle United FC between 2007 and October last year, resigned as a director of Frasers Group on 19th October this year, although he retains a majority ownership stake.
Championsip club Coventry City were tenants at the stadium, although since Wasps entered administration, the stadium's new owners, headed by Mr Ashley, does not believe that they are bound by the previous agreement.
BBC Sport reports that the football club's officials were informed on Friday that they must return keys and access cards, while their youth team's FA Youth Cup game on Saturday was moved to Leamington Town FC.
Frasers have said that the football club will be given a reasonable amount of time to remove goods and property from the stadium.
With the exception of three seasons, Coventry City have played at the stadium - originally named the Ricoh Arena - since 2005.
Two and a half weeks ago it was announced that Coventry City's owners had sold 85% of the club's shares to local businessman Doug King. The club's sale is still pending EFL approval.
It was thought that the new ownership would lead to a period of stability for the club after Mr King made a £25m bid to purchase the stadium, however this was blocked by a judge who said that it had come too late.
Coventry City's next home game is scheduled to take place on 17th December against Swasnea City, although it's not clear where this match will take place after Mike Ashley's Frasers Group served their eviction notice to the club.
