SUNDERLAND head coach Tony Mowbray has gone with an unchanged starting line-up as he takes charge of his first Black Cats game.
It’s the same team that lost to Norwich City at the weekend with Mowbray watching on from the stands.
Luke O’Nien keeps his place in a back three with Danny Batth and Dennis Cirkin making up the rest of the defence. Lynden Gooch and Jack Clarke will operate as wing-backs.
Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans, who knows Mowbray well from his time at Ewood Park, is in midfield alongside Dan Neil and Alex Pritchard with Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms up front.
The 58-year-old took charge of training yesterday at the Academy of Light and is on first-team duties for tonight at the Stadium of Light to face Rotherham United.
Sunderland XI (3-5-2): Patterson; O'Nien, Batth, Cirkin; Gooch, Evans, Neil, Pritchard, Clarke; Simms, Stewart

Rotherham XI: Johansson, Harding, Barlaser, Wood, Wiles, Norton-Cuffy, Ogbene, Washington, Ferguson, Rathbone, Peltier
