COSTA Rican winger Jewison Bennette is expected on Wearside today to complete a permanent move to Sunderland.
Reports suggest the 18-year-old was at Juan Santamaria Airport on Monday heading to England to finalise his switch from Herediano.
Benette, who is comfortable at playing on the right or left of midfield, has made 35 appearances for Herediano and scored three goals since breaking into the first-team last season. He has also made six appearances for the Costa Rican national team.
He has been a target for the Black Cats in recent weeks and speaking to Central American media outlet Teletica yesterday, Benette said: “I feel that this is the beginning of many challenges and goals that I have.”
Should Bennette’s deal be completed without any hitches, he will become the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window following in the footsteps of Dan Ballard, Aji Alese, Jack Clarke and Ellis Simms.
