ALL six north-east teams were in action across the weekend. Who made it into The Northern Echo’s Team of the Week?
GK – Anthony Patterson (Sunderland): Made three excellent first-half saves, the pick of which saw him tip Jacob Brown’s shot over the top of the bar. A first clean sheet of the season.
RWB – Kieran Trippier (Newcastle): Capped another superb display with a wonderful direct free-kick that found the top corner. Committed display in a brilliant Newcastle side.
RCB – Sven Botman (Newcastle): Won most of his aerial battles, and kept his head despite some wonderful passing from Kevin de Bruyne. A mad game for him to be involved in.
CB – Danny Batth (Sunderland): Had a difficult time in the opening 20 minutes, but recovered his composure and was impressive in the second half.
LCB – Dennis Cirkin (Sunderland): A hugely impressive defensive showing in which he won his personal battles and stepped out with the ball well.
LWB – David Ferguson (Hartlepool): After Pools were pegged back early in the game, Ferguson popped up with a well taken header on his 101st appearance for the club.
CM – Jude Oyibo (Spennymoor): The matchwinner for Moors against Leamington as he took a short corner and blasted the ball into the top right corner.
CM – Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle): Another superb midfield display from the Brazilian, who held things together as City looked to pour forward. A key player for Newcastle.
CAM – Jack Lambert (Darlington): The skilful midfielder handed the Quakers the lead with a lovely curling effort from distance but it wasn’t enough for earn victory against Banbury United.
ST – Allan St Maximin (Newcastle): Was involved in all three of Newcastle’s goals and tied the Man City defenders in knots all afternoon. Back to his very best.
ST – Ross Stewart (Sunderland): Led the line brilliantly and claimed his third goal of the season with a fine run and angled finish. Looking very comfortable at Championship level.
Man of the Week: Allan St Maximin
