SUNDERLAND were pegged back by two late goals, one of which was scored by goalkeeper Seny Dieng, as it finished 2-2 against Queens Park Rangers.
Digital Sports Writer Matty Jones was watching the game at the Stadium of Light...
SAFC XI:
6 Patterson – Not a tremendous amount to do during the game but couldn't keep out Dieng's outstanding header.
6 Batth – Didn’t get drawn into too much of a battle with Dykes and kept him quiet throughout the afternoon. Needed to help shore things up in the game.
N/A Ballard – Withdrawn after nine minutes due to an injury from an innocuous tackle from Adomah.
8 Cirkin – Superb at the back. Won his battles, kept things quiet on the right and looks really comfortable at Championship level.
7 Gooch – Did his defensive duties when called upon and was always willing to stand his man up and beat him down the right.
7 Evans – An astute operator in the middle of the park and never seems to get fazed on the ball. Ticked things over really well.
6 Neil – Played his part in a composed performance but tired as the game wore on. Did well to test the keeper for the opening goal of the game.
7 Pritchard – Was a constant threat in the first half finding pockets of space in key areas. A crucial player for Sunderland.
7 Clarke – Got caught once or twice too far up the pitch but was a big threat for QPR to deal with on the left. Tired as the game wore on.
8 Stewart – Couldn’t do much more to salvage the three points for his side. Was on hand to finish the chance for the first goal and forced Dieng into an outstanding save at the end.
8 Simms – Another brilliant performance. He was a handful for the hour he played and he took his goal really well.
Subs:
6 O’Nien 9’ – Won his battles on the deck and kept things quiet for the majority of the game but could not see it out.
6 P.Roberts 60’ – Tried to make things happen and had a chance that he tamely shot straight at the keeper.
N/A Embleton 87’
N/A Wright 87’
Subs not used: Bass, Alese, Diamond
QPR XI: Dieng 9; Kakay 7, Dickie 5; Dunne 6, Hamalainen 6’ (Bonne 90+’); Johansen 6 (Dozzell 75’), Field 6; Chair 8; Adomah 5 Roberts 45’ 8); Shodipo 7 (Armstrong 81’); Dykes 6
Subs not used: Masterson, Gubbins, Walsh
Man of the Match: Seny Dieng – Did brilliantly well with some good saves, denied Stewart with a last minute effort and popped up with a last minute equaliser. Can’t ask for much more than that from your goalkeeper.
