MARCUS FORSS is confident he is an ideal fit for Middlesbrough – and cannot wait to prove himself on Teesside.
Boro’s summer-long search for a new striker finally achieved a breakthrough yesterday when Forss signed a four-year deal to complete a permanent switch from Brentford.
The Finland international is set to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s Championship opener against West Brom, having been part of the Brentford squad that won promotion to the Premier League two seasons ago.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City, and with Chris Wilder having been desperate to strengthen his attacking ranks ahead of the weekend, Forss is confident he will be able to make a positive impact.
“I’m very excited for the future here,” said the striker. “It’s a massive football club. I spoke to the gaffer for maybe two to five minutes, and as soon as we spoke, I knew this was the right choice and I did everything to come here.
“When we spoke, he said he thought I would fit into this team very well. I see that as well, and I can’t wait to get going now.
“I think I bring a lot of experience from playing in the Premier League and playing in the Championship. Hopefully, I will bring a lot of speed and goals to the football club.”
That will be Wilder’s hope too, and while the Boro boss will be pushing to recruit at least one more forward before the transfer window closes at the end of last month, he is delighted to have persuaded Forss to move to the Riverside.
“We’re delighted to bring Marcus in,” said Wilder, who is poised to lose the services of Marcus Tavernier, with the midfielder close to completing a move to Bournemouth. “He played a big part in Brentford winning promotion a couple of seasons ago, and he knows this league well. He’s a good athlete and all-round player. We’re really looking forward to what he can bring to the squad.”
