MIDDLESBROUGH full-back Hayden Coulson has completed a season long loan move to Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen.

The 24-year-old has effectively played his last game for Boro with his contract coming to an end next summer with the club unlikely to extend his deal.

Coulson was deemed surplus to requirements during pre-season by Chris Wilder despite featuring in a number of friendly matches. However, with Ryan Giles and Marc Bola ahead of him in the pecking order, Coulson’s chances of first-team football were always going to be limited.

He burst into Boro’s first-team under Jonathan Woodgate and went on to make 49 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal.

However, he soon found his place in the side taken by Marc Bola under Neil Warnock and sealed a loan move to Ipswich Town last season which was hampered by injury.

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin said: “Hayden fits the profile of full back we’ve been looking to recruit.

“He’s athletic, attack minded and has gained some valuable experience at a high level having played almost 50 games in the English Championship for Middlesbrough.

“I’m delighted we were able to get this loan agreed and thank Middlesbrough for their assistance in making this happen.”
