The Northern Echo:

What might Boro’s side be?

Chris Wilder fielded a strong side for their recent friendly against Braga but ended up being 3-0 losers on the evening in Portugal.

Josh Coburn played as a loan striker with Riley McGree and Marcus Tavernier advancing forward from midfield in support.

With the exception of Paddy McNair and Duncan Watmore, Boro had a very young bench perhaps highlighting their need for reinforcements.

Zack Steffen is expected to have completed his loan move from Manchester City by the time Boro are in action but he is not expected to be involved.

Predicted XI: Daniels; McNair, Fry, Lenihan; Jones, Giles; Howson, Crooks, McGree, Tavernier; Watmore

What is the opposition like?

Morecambe, who play in League One, are preparing for their season opening game against Shrewsbury Town.

The Shrimps are managed by Derek Adams who has been in charge of them since 2022 after returning for a second spell in the dugout.

Morecambe took their fight for League One survival to the final day last season. Despite defeat to Sunderland, they stayed up thanks to results around them.

Cole Stockton ended up as the club’s top scorer last season with 26 goals in all competitions.
