NEWCASTLE UNITED'S pre-season preparations continued with a comfortable 3-0 win over 1860 Munich in Austria this afternoon.
The Magpies scored all three of their goals in the second half against German third-tier opposition, with Eddie Howe handing game time to the vast majority of the squad that have travelled to this week's training camp.
A fairly non-descript first half saw summer signings Nick Pope and Matt Targett both start, along with Elliot Anderson, who is hoping to impress after last season's loan spell at Bristol Rovers.
Pope, a summer signing from Burnley, palmed a free-kick from Martin Koblyanski around the post while, at the other end, Allan Saint-Maximin came close with a shot that came at the end of one of his trademark dribbles.
Howe handed a first Newcastle appearance to recent signing Sven Botman at the interval, and after Callum Wilson twice went close, the Magpies took the lead ten minutes into the second half.
Jonjo Shelvey laid the ball into Joe Willock's path, and the midfielder rifled an assured finish into the roof of the net.
Howe made ten more changes on the hour mark, introducing the likes of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, and it only took Guimaraes three minutes to set up Sean Longstaff for Newcastle's second goal.
A third goal arrived in the closing stages, with Guimaraes playing a one-two with Chris Wood before slotting home.
NEWCASTLE: Pope (Dubravka 60); Krafth (Trippier 60), Lascelles (Botman 45), Burn (Schar 60), Targett (Dummett 60); Shelvey (S Longstaff 60), Willock (Joelinton 60); Murphy (Fraser 60), Anderson (Guimaraes 60), Saint-Maximin (Almiron 60); Wilson (Wood 60).
