JEFF Hendrick has completed another loan move away from Newcastle United after joining Championship side Reading for the forthcoming season.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been training with the club’s under-23’s side during pre-season with the club keen to offload first-team players that won’t be part of the squad for next season.

Hendrick joined the club in August 2020 from Burnley and has made 27 appearances in total but has found game time hard to come by under Eddie Howe since his appointment in November last year. He still has two years left on his current deal on Tyneside.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Queens Park Rangers where he made ten appearances for Mark Warburton’s side.

Royals manager Paul Ince said: "Jeff is a midfielder I have admired for a long period of time. He has the ability and experience to play in a number of roles across the midfield, he works hard, he wins the ball back, he can pick a pass and he can score goals too.

"A player of his experience will prove so important for this club going into the challenge of the Championship this season."

Ciaran Clark, who has also been training with the under-23’s, is currently undergoing a medical at Sheffield United ahead of a loan move while Dwight Gayle is the subject of interest from a number of Championship sides.
