NEWCASTLE United hammered National League side Gateshead 5-1 at their Benton training ground to open their pre-season fixture schedule.
Eddie Howe’s side put the sword to Mike Williamson’s side with goals from Matt Ritchie, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff while Miguel Almiron helped himself to a brace. Paul Blackett scored the Heeds only goal.
New signings Nick Pope and Sven Botman watched on from the sidelines after they were allowed extra time away after being on international duty with England and The Netherlands Under-21’s respectively.
Howe used a different starting eleven for each half of the game with the exception of Kell Watts, who played the full 90 minutes of the game.
