How did the players fare in Middlesbrough's 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield?
MIDDLESBROUGH (3-5-2):
7 DANIELS: Couldn’t be blamed for either goal and made a couple of excellent saves from Rhodes and Koroma
5 Dijksteel: Started in a back three and finished in a back four, but didn’t look particularly comfortable at any stage
4 Bamba: His jittery performance was summed up by the errant back-pass that forced Daniels to concede a free-kick – and he lost Rhodes for the goal
5 McNair: Was never really able to get properly on top of Rhodes and was stretched when asked to play in a four
5 Jones: Couldn’t get anything out of the Huddersfield backline – kept plugging away, but very little came off for him
6 McGree: The pick of the Boro midfield – almost scored a superb late goal with his shot that cannoned off the crossbar
5 Howson: His effort couldn’t be faulted, but he was outplayed by the Huddersfield midfield and was chasing shadows in the second half
5 Tavernier: Tried his luck with a couple of efforts that were deflected wide, but wasn’t really a factor in the final third
4 Bola: Didn’t look defensively secure all afternoon and made an extremely poor run as Rhodes scored Huddersfield’s second
4 Watmore: Covered a lot of ground in the final third, but never looked like asking a serious question of the Terriers defence
4 Sporar: Barely touched the ball inside the Huddersfield area and was eventually hauled off just after the hour mark
Subs:
4 Coburn (for Bamba, 55): Tried to offer a physical threat in the closing stages, but the delivery was never really there
4 Balogun (for Sporar, 61): Fired a shot straight at Nicholls, but wasn’t really able to offer a serious threat
Connolly (for Watmore, 78)
(not used): Lumley (gk), Taylor, Peltier, Lea-Siliki.
HUDDERSFIELD (3-5-2):
Nicholls 7; Turton 8, Lees 7, Sarr 8; Pipa 7, O’BRIEN 8, Hogg 7, Russell 7, Toffolo 7 (Ruffels 80); Rhodes 8 (High 89), Thomas 7 (Koroma 46, 7).
Subs (not used): Blackman (gk), Anjorin, Holmes, Sinani.
Man Of The Match: LEWIS O’BRIEN – The Huddersfield midfielder was a constant thorn in Middlesbrough’s side, prompting and probing in the central areas.
