SUNDERLAND have dropped out of the play-off positions in League One as a result of this evening’s matches involving some of the teams around them in the table.
Wycombe Wanderers’ 4-1 win at Cambridge United means they have climbed above the Black Cats into sixth position.
Sunderland have dropped down to seventh, a place below the play-off positions, although they do have a game in hand on both Wycombe and fourth-paced Plymouth Argyle. They are currently two points behind both Wycombe and fifth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.
Oxford United would also have moved above the Black Cats had they won tonight, but the Us suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened Morecambe. Sunderland travel to the Kassam Stadium to face Oxford this weekend.
Wigan are at the top of the table after they cruised to a 3-0 win over Accrington Stanley, while MK Dons have climbed into an automatic-promotion spot with a 2-1 victory against Crewe.
Long-time leaders Rotherham United have dropped to third place, although they do have two games in hand on MK Dons.
