NORTHERN League side Billingham Synthonia is on the verge of extinction and have put out an urgent appeal for donations this morning following the loss of their main source of income.
The Synners were founded in 1923 and were due to celebrate their 100th anniversary next year but their main investor has now pulled out leaving them in a perilous position of going under.
The club were forced to move from it’s old stadium, Central Avenue, in 2017 due to the cost of upgrading the ground and it’s surrounding. However, it’s understood that the club are being kicked out of their current groundshare at Norton Sports Complex at the end of the season which could mean the end for the club.
The news was confirmed this morning in a club statement where they say talks are organised with other investors. An appeal for donations from the public is also being made.
It read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, our main source of income has decided to randomly pull out of the club leaving us in a bad situation.
“This is no fault of anyone currently involved with the day-to-day running of the club but it is now going to be a struggle to survive. Rest assured the club will do everything we can to continue and take this club to the level it deserves.
“The club has meetings set up with potential investors and hoping all goes well with them.
“Next year, Synners will celebrate 100 years of existence and it would be absolutely heart breaking to us all if Synners would cease to exist. We are all extremely upset with what’s going on and are determined to put it right and seek major help.
“We have held a meeting with the players last night about the situation and are hoping they can stick together whilst we do our best to get out of this mess.
“The chairman has set up a JustGiving page which will be going out on social media and to the likes of the BBC and newspapers for any help people can offer via donation and will be promoted quite often over the coming weeks. Thank you for your support. Up the Synners.”
Any donations made via the public can be done through their JustGiving page here.
