Diego Carlos has indicated that he will stay at Sevilla despite Newcastle United's interest in signing him in the January transfer window.
Reports before this news suggested that Carlos was ready to leave the Spanish club before their recent draw with fellow La Liga side Valencia.
However, in an appearance onĀ Spain's popular Ultima Hora show he said: ""I have a lot of time left here."
According to Express Sport, Newcastle had put in bids in the region of Ā£25million and Ā£30m for the Brazilian defender, but Sevilla wanted a transfer fee more in the range of Ā£50m.
An agreement had been struck with Carlos in terms of a contract but now they are considering pulling out.
What was Newcastle United fan reaction on social media to the Diego Carlos transfer falling through?
Reaction by Newcastle United fans on Twitter was mostly that of acceptance of the deal now not happening, with many saying that the club should not bother pursuing it further.
So Diego Carlos puts in a transfer request and says he wants to come here then all of a sudden a couple of days later heā€™s said heā€™s staying at Sevilla? What an actual joke the transfer window is becoming, piss up and brewery come to mind #NUFC

Theyā€™re out of our league right now. Summer signings if we survive.
Focus on realistic targets please, we need them in urgency #nufc

Richard Woods wrote: "Think we should be going after Phil Jones or Nat Phillips now Diego Carlos looks to be over".
Graeme Patterson was also happy for the club to end their pursuit of the defender.
He wrote: "To be honest, I've heard a few worrying comments about Diego Carlos that he has a mistake in him (we don't need any more of them).

Andy Hayward just hoped that the Carlos deal falling through would mean the club could focus on other targets.
He wrote: "Looks like Diego Carlos isn't joining. Add him to the other 20 or so players who have turned us down... Still have another 100 players linked to us to go through. Hope we sign somebody, this window is flying".
