A man stabbed to death in Bermuda is understood to be former Darlington footballer Osagi Bascome.
Police in Bermuda have confirmed a 23-year-old man has died after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
A police spokesman is quoted as saying: “A police investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 23-year-old male, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an apparent stabbing incident.
“Officers were at King Edward Memorial Hospital in connection with another matter, when they were alerted to the victim who was brought into the Emergency Department in a non-responsive state, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.
“The victim was transported to hospital via private vehicle. Details are at this time limited.
“A scene has now been established in the area of Fun Zone, Wallers Point Road, St. Georges.
“Details remain limited at this time and police are urging anyone with information on this incident, to get in contact with Acting Detective Inspector, Dean Martin, of the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011.”
Bascome, 23, left Darlington in February last year.
Though not always a regular during his 11 months at Blackwell Meadows, he will always be remembered by Quakers fans for his integral role in a dramatic equalising goal against Walsall.
It was from his free-kick that Joe Wheatley scored deep into stoppage time to earn a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup in November 2019.
Former Quakers team-mate Justin Donawa tweeted two photographs of himself alongside Bascome, and said: “He never knew how much he kept me going at times.”
Omar Holness tweeted a video of Bascome and added: “Sleep easy balla.”
Friend John Woolnough, who played a key role in Bascome, Holness and Donawa joining Darlington, added: “Amazing person. Great friend. Even better footballer. Was a pleasure knowing you. RIP Osagi.”
