Redcar Bears have followed a “familiar faces” approach to complete their 2022 title challenging team.
With skipper Charles Wright and reserve Jordan Jenkins confirmed as returnees from last year’s team, German star Erik Riss makes his return to the Bear’s team after a year riding for the Birmingham Brummies. Riss was initially in the 2021 line-up but stepped aside when the uncertainty of a UK speedway season was apparent.
Joining Erik in returning to Redcar colours is last year’s late season capture, Lewis Kerr, along with 2019 fan favourite Kasper Andersen. Both have taken a liking to the South Tees Motorsport Park and will be a joy to watch.
The final two slots are taken by Adam Roynon, who enjoyed a short injury hit spell with the Bears back in 2011, and young southerner Jason Edwards. Jason finished the 2021 season with a string of promising guest bookings including an impressive performance for the Bears!
Manager and co-promoter Jade Mudgway is excited with the team he’s managed to put together as well as confident in the entertainment on show.
He said “At the end of last season both myself and Jamie (Swales) had a good idea of the riders we wanted to join us and we structured the team around that.”
“Charles and Jordan were no-brainers for us. Lewis and Erik fell in a similar bracket, Lewis having a sensational last half of the season for us whilst Erik, well, we know what Erik can do when he’s given a track he can attack.”
“I was gutted when Kasper had visa issues last year meaning we had to look for other options, and it hurt seeing him come here with Berwick and ride like I knew he could! He has the potential to put big points on his average.”
“One key signing for me has got to be Jason Edwards. He put himself in the shop window with his performance when guesting for us at Birmingham last season. Luck hasn’t gone his way in his short career, but with a bit of support and time he will be the best 2-point rider in the league.”
“Adam had a solid season for Newcastle last year and I believe he has what it takes to improve on his average.”
“2022 will be a busy season. We have agreed the addition of a new summer competition and that should fill our home fixtures up nicely. I really think every rider in this team can improve their average and get us to the all-important play-offs.”
REDCAR BEARS 2022 LINE-UP: Charles Wright, Erik Riss, Lewis Kerr, Kasper Andersen, Adam Roynon, Jordan Jenkins and Jason Edwards.
