LIZZY MENTIER made it three championship titles in 2021 as she was crowned Teesside Sprint Series champion without having to take to the track for the final round of racing.
The 12-year-old, from Marske, competes in Mini Rotax karting and has won both the National Junior Kart Championship and Hooton Indikart Series this year.
A pupil at Outwood Academy Bydales School, she was leading the Teesside Series by an almost-unassailable 29-point margin heading into the final round of the nine-event series at Teesside Karting, and was handed the title when the wintry weather meant racing proved impossible.
Lizzy said: “It’s been a great season, better than I could have ever imagined but none of this would have been possible without the support of my family and sponsors. My dad is my mechanic and he’s been brilliant and my mum keeps me fed and watered, as well as being my biggest supporter. My engine builder, HRS Racing Engines, have made sure I’ve always had the power to challenge at the sharp end and we also have some amazing sponsors.”
With thoughts turning to the 2022 season, Lizzy’s dad, Lee, added: “This season has been better than we could have ever imagined and Lizzy has driven marvellously all season.
“We now have to make a decision regarding next season as to whether we stay in Mini Rotax for another year and hone our skills further or make the jump to Junior Rotax, but for that we may need a few more sponsors to come on board. We’ll take some time to consider the options.”
