SPENNYMOOR Town have completed the signing of former Hartlepool United defender Aaron Cunningham.
The 23-year-old has been a free agent since being released by Pools over the summer but has been training with the club to maintain his fitness.
Moors are currently combating their own defensive injury problems with Carl Magnay, James Curtis and John Lufudu all struggling with fitness but Cunningham has been plagued by a number of long term injuries over the course of his career.
He’s made 17 league appearances for Pools since coming through their youth academy in 2017 and has had loan spells at fellow National League North side Blyth Spartans.
Manager Tommy Miller said: “I am delighted that Aaron has agreed to join us at Spennymoor.
“We have been trying to get another defender in over the last few weeks, and by bringing in Aaron we have someone who gives us good options as he can play anywhere across the back line.
“Having played at a higher level with Hartlepool and with his experience at Blyth, he knows all about the National League North.
“He was released from Pools in the summer and after recovering from an operation he is ready to kick on with us. He is a welcome addition to the squad.”
Moors travel to AFC Fylde in National League North this evening where Cunningham is likely to play a part in tonight’s game.
