SPENNYMOOR are facing one of the toughest ties of the round when they go to AFC Fylde in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup today.
Fylde are top of Vanarama National League North courtesy of an unbeaten record this season, while Moors are in fourth place themselves.
Manager Tommy Miller said: “It’s a very tough game on paper. They’ve had a great start to the season and are unbeaten in the league so far. They’ve got a good squad and a good set-up, and to be honest, I would have preferred a home game – we’ve had seven away ties in a row now in the FA Cup.
“But we have to get on with it. We know it’s going to be a difficult tie, but we’re confident. We went there last season and maybe should have got something.
“We had a few chances to score last time, and we know they like to take risks with the way they play – hopefully we’ll be able to exploit that.”
Moors produced some excellent football when they thumped Farsley 6-0 last week, and Miller added: “It could have been more, because their keeper made some good saves. We created plenty of chances, which was pleasing. The ironic thing was, that we created more chances against York when we lost – but that’s the way football is. I’m also pleased with the way the defence has played over the last couple of games. Hopefully we can keep it going at Fylde.”
Miller is expected to choose from a full squad, with no major injury issues.
Also in the FA Cup, Stockton are hoping to cause a big upset by winning at Curzon Ashton, who play in the National League North, two leagues above them.
They go to Greater Manchester with plenty of confidence after a good win over Dunston in midweek in the NPL East, and manager Micky Dunwell said; “We rediscovered our form from last season. We passed the ball well, were strong all over the pitch, and we played with high energy.
“We played Guiseley three years ago and nearly caused them an upset. We’ve watched Curzon and so we have a good idea of how they play. We’ve got nothing to lose, we’ll have a good go at them.”
Striker Jonathan Franks has a hamstring injury and is doubtful, while defender Adam Nicholson is missing because of suspension.
