RAMSIDE HALL has been crowned England's Golf's Junior Champion Club for 2021 after three of its young members triumphed in a national competition.
Ramside's three-strong team of Thomas Southwell, Hayden Pragnell and Jamie Jopling saw off 25 clubs from across the UK to win the prestigious national honour.
Competing at the finals weekend at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in Lincolnshire, the Ramside team edged out Somerset’s Mendip Golf Club and Lees Hall from Yorkshire to win over two rounds.
At the end of day one, Ramside Hall were in a tie for fifth place with 68 stableford points, before an excellent second round score of 80 points saw them climb up the leaderboard into top spot.
Following his team's win, Thomas, 14, from Houghton-le-Spring, said: “It’s very special. It was a really good course and everyone enjoyed it.
“The team are really pleased. It’s a massive score between us and it’s the biggest event we’ve ever won, so everyone is really happy.”
The three team-mates have been attending Ramside Hall’s junior training programme for the past three years.
Throughout the pre competition training and qualifying rounds, they honed their skills on the club’s 18-hole par 72 Prince Bishop’s Course and Cathedral Course.
Helen Roseberry, director of golf at Ramside Hall, said: I'm delighted and very proud of them. They have practised incredibly hard and are an absolute credit to the club."
