SPENNYMOOR claimed their second win of the season as they saw off Southport 3-2 in an action-packed game at the Brewery Field.
Moors thrilled a crowd of 1,312, with Brad Abbott scoring twice in the first half, then Rob Ramshaw popped up with the winner ten minutes from time.
The victory maintained Moors’ record of never having lost to Southport in the National League over the last four seasons.
Manager Tommy Miller said: “We’re obviously delighted with the win, but disappointed with the goals we conceded.
“If you look at the game overall, I thought we deserved the three points. I thought we recovered well after the first goal, and we were in the ascendancy at 2-1, but then to concede a second goal just before half-time was a killer blow.”
Moors started the game at a fast pace, and Ramshaw, Glen Taylor and Brad Abbott all had shots blocked, so it was a surprise when Southport took the lead on 16 minutes when Marcus Carver headed the ball down for Josh Hmami to fire past Moors goalkeeper Dale Eve.
Carver missed a good chance to put the visitors 2-0 up when he broke through with just Eve to beat, but the keeper pulled off a good save.
Moors were level on 33 minutes when Ramshaw sent Scott McLean away down the left, and he crossed perfectly for Abbott to turn past Southport keeper Cameron Mason.
Eight minutes later, they were in front when Ramshaw and John Lufudu exchanged passes, with Ramshaw sending Abbott running through to score.
However, Moors’ delight was quickly dampened when Carver pounced inside the Moors area and fired into the top corner.
But just on half-time, Moors nearly went back in front, with Ramshaw only just off target.
There weren’t as many chances in the second half, but it was the hosts who took theirs when it came along with ten minutes left.
Carl Magnay found Taylor on the left, and he crossed the ball into the middle for Ramshaw to head past Mason.
Taylor nearly got a fourth in stoppage-time, but he headed against the post.
Spennymoor's next game is a National League North fixture at Leamington this weekend.
