SPENNYMOOR Town's long awaited return to National League North begins this afternoon with a trip to Boston United to open the season.
Moors haven't played a competitive game since 28th December 2020, which was a 3-1 win against Gateshead.
The Covid-19 pandemic forced clubs into a decision to declare the National League North table null and void in what was an already disrupted campaign and Moors voted to end the season.
Tommy Miller takes charge of his first full season in charge at the Brewery Field.
The bookmakers have them to be in and around the play-offs this season. In 2019, Moors lost their play-off final on penalties to Chorley after a 1-1 draw.
With two seasons of heavy disruption since, Miller says he, and the squad, can't wait to get going against Boston this afternoon.
The Moors boss said: “You just want to get up and running. You want to get going whether it’s home or away.
"With Boston United, it’s a new ground as well so we’re looking forward to going there. They’re a good time, they’ve done well the last few years.
"They are always there or there about, they narrowly missed out in the final the other year off Altrincham so it’s one to look forward to and, like I say, we’re looking forward to going there and putting on a performance.
“The last few years have proven that we can mix it with the best teams in the league. We’ve got a good squad of players here who are more than capable of playing higher, I believe.
"They’ve just got to show that on a consistent basis. We’ve been there or there about.
"Obviously the last full season, we got beat in the play-off final on penalties and came so close and then we just missed out (on the play-offs) on points per game the following season and then everyone knows what happened last year, we only played 13 games.
"We’re not coming in to make the numbers up. We’ll be very competitive and we want to be looking at the top end of the table.
“I’ve got a good idea of my starting eleven. We’ll pick a team that’s going to go to Boston and give account of themselves and hopefully come back with points on the board.
