SPENNYMOOR Town manager Tommy Miller is finding new signings hard to come by as the club approach their first game of the National League North season.
Moors open there league campaign with an away trip to Boston United tomorrow ahead of another season where promotion is the aim for Miller's side.
So far, two new signings have come to the Brewery Field in John Lufudu and Brad Abbott. The Moors boss is taking charge of his first full campaign after last season's curtailment due to Covid. He told the Northern Echo while the market has been a struggle over the summer months, he expects that to change in the coming weeks once other teams get their season underway.
Miller said: “Location possibly is one reason. Part-time being another. I get that players want to stay full-time if they are dropping down from the leagues and dropping down from the National League.
"They are in a routine of training day-to-day and sometimes it’s hard to adjust going to part-time.
"Also, the National League starts a week after us so a lot of clubs who have players in their team or in their squad are using them at the minute for pre-season but I’m sure once the season gets underway for the National League then there is going to be players that filter down and become available.
"Hopefully they’ll come to Spennymoor Town, certainly the ones I’m after.
"“In an ideal situation, you’d like your squad to be sorted and you’d like to get players in ready for the start of the season but that hasn’t materialised.
"I’m still looking to improve the team and improve the squad and as the season gets underway, there’ll be players coming through the door, definitely.
“I’m aware of what clubs have got and certainly with the league underway at the minute, I kept an eye on who’s playing where, who was on the bench and who wasn’t in the squad so I’m aware of people who could become available and I’m ready to make a move once it’s finalised or once it’s confirmed if it’s the right fit.
"They’ve got to be the right fit. I don’t want to bring players in just to make the numbers up. I want to bring players in to make a difference to go into the team really."
