Paul Drinkhall will head to Tokyo for his third Olympic Games after a late call-up to Team GB’s squad.
Drinkhall, 31, has been called up thanks to an injury sustained by Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus.
The Middlesbrough born table tennis player managed to seal a place at the games based on his world rankings meaning he will now join Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho in the Japanese capital.
Drinkhall will compete in the men’s singles at the tournament. Previously he has competed at Rio 2016 and London 2012.
In his last Olympic games, he reached the round of 16 while on home soil in London, Drinkhall was knocked out in the last 32.
The 31-year-old has won gold in the past at the Commonwealth games winning in the Mixed Doubles in Glasgow in 2014 and in the Doubles on the Gold Coast in 2018.
