A TEAM of rowers look set to smash a Guinness World Record as they near the finish line of the Great Pacific Race.
The Lat35 team, which includes Duncan Roy from Ingleby Arncliffe, are rowing 2,400 nautical miles from San Francisco to Hawaii.
Based on their current speed, Lat35 are estimated to finish the race this Wednesday in a World Record time of 30 days, knocking nine days off the previous fastest four record of 39 days, nine hours and 56 minutes.
Mr Roy, 30, is no stranger to World Records, having set one for the leg of his first Atlantic Row from Cape Verde to French Guiana in 2018.
Since its launch in 2014, only 22 teams have ever completed the Great Pacific Race.
Mr Roy is joined by Angus Collins of Battersea, Jordan Shuttleworth of Staffordshire and Jason Caldwell of California.
