How did the players fare in England's 2-1 win over Poland?
ENGLAND (4-2-3-1):
6 Pope: Wasn’t to blame as his run of clean sheets came to an end, but needs to brush up on his kicking if he is to move ahead of Pickford
6 Walker: Didn’t have many chances to get on the front foot, but is perhaps better suited to playing in a back three than as a full-back now
8 MAGUIRE: Dug England out of a hole with a superb driven finish and was always in command of things at the heart of the back four
4 Stones: Just when it looked as though he had eradicated his errors, his glaring mistake offered Poland a route back into the game
5 Chilwell: Southgate clearly thinks he is a better bet than Shaw, but on this evidence, the Man United man is in much better form
7 Rice: Was the best player on the pitch in the first half, and while his performance dipped slightly, his ability to break up play remained important
4 Phillips: Was fortunate to stay on the pitch as England needed more of a spark in the second half – his set-piece delivery was poor
6 Foden: Showed the occasional flash of creative flair, but was generally frustrated as he struggled to exert a major influence from out on the right
6 Mount: Was neat and tidy for most of the game, but wasn’t really able to trouble the Polish defence from inside the 18-yard box
7 Sterling: Caused a number of problems in the first half, with his pace and dribbling ability winning the penalty that opened the scoring
6 Kane: Added to his tally of goals from the penalty spot and forced a decent first-half save from Szczesny with a low shot
Subs:
James (for Foden, 86)
Calvert-Lewin (for Kane, 89)
Lingard (for Sterling, 89)
(not used): Johnstone (gk), Trippier, Coady, Mings, Shaw, Dier, Henderson, Bellingham, Watkins.
POLAND (3-4-3):
Szczesny 7; BEDNAREK 7, Glik 6, Helik 4 (Jozwiak 54, 5); Bereszynski 5, Krychowiak 5, Moder 6, Rybus 6 (Reca 86); Swiderski 4 (Milik 46, 6), Piatek 5 (Augustyniak 76), Zielinski 5 (Grosicki 86).
Subs (not used): Fabianski (gk), Kowalczyk, Dawidowicz, Kozlowski, Niemczycki, Placheta, Szymanski.
Man Of The Match: HARRY MAGUIRE – Defensively secure, unlike his centre-half partner, and popped up with an excellent finish when England needed it most.
