FOLLOWING the cancellation of the final round due to the escalating restrictions because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the results of the 2020 Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy presented by Cooper Tires have been declared.
The organisers approved the classification of the 2020 championship based on three of the six planned rounds that were all held at Lydden Hill in Kent, and as a result, three drivers from the North-East have emerged successful claiming their respective crowns with a couple of others marginally missing out.
In the Motorsport UK Supernational Rallycross Championship, Northallerton’s Paige Bellerby won the class in her Lotus Exige by virtue of one win and two second places out of the three rounds held. Northallerton driver Guy Corner contested two rounds in his similar Lotus and finished fourth in the standings.
Former junior champion, Tom Constantine from Catterick, secured the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship with two wins in addition to topping all three qualifiers to give him the advantage over Darlington-based cousin James Constantine who was the first-round winner.
Keeping it in the family was Tom’s brother Luke Constantine in the Junior Rallycross Championship, who despite winning rounds two and three, missed out on the title by just one point. Northallerton’s Benjamin Sayer claimed third in his Suzuki Swift.
Meanwhile 2019 vice-champion David Bell from Ferryhill won the BMW Mini Rallycross Championship title with two wins and a second place. Northallerton’s Dave Bellerby and daughter Drew shared a car and finished in the top six of the series with Teessider Andrew Hawkes just missing out on the top ten.
