PHILADELPHIA captain Shaun Smith has scored a double by being named Player of the Season by both his club and the Durham Cricket League.
Smith scored 717 runs leading the Bunker Hill side to promotion and was presented with the Jack Welsh Memorial Trophy when Phili held their annual awards night in the clubhouse.
The presentation was made by chairman Malcolm Pratt who said Smith had excelled both as a player and captain.
"Just before the start of last season we found that three first team players would not be available and we made an indifferent beginning, but Shaun stuck in and by winning our last five games, we will play in the North East Premier League Division One next season," said Pratt.
Other recipients of awards were: First team bowler Adam McGuire; second team batsman Lee Bunting, bowler Chris Paton; third team batsman Michael Kearney, bowler David Lowerson and John Pratt; Sunday third team batsman Archie Smiles, bowler Brett Walton; Academy batsman Alex Davison, bowler James Davison. Gordon Graves Memorial Trophy for most improved junior - Joe Walshaw.
Four juniors - Archie Smiles, Luke Robinson, Sam Davidson and Sam Hughes were given vouchers to purchase cricket equipment. The quartet scored maiden half-centuries in senior cricket.
A special award was made to 15-year-old Luke Robinson for taking a hat-trick in the first team game against Durham City.
The club's junior winter coaching are being held at Durham School on Sundays from 11 am - 1 pm. Australian Mike Fishwick will lead the sessions together with Phili's qualified coaches. Any youngster interested in attending should contact Stephen Robinson on 0791 354 5314.
