GENEROUS Darlington supporters have chipped to buy a new flag for a Boston United supporter in order to replace the one that went missing during their match at the weekend.
Quakers beat Boston 2-1 at Blackwell Meadows on Saturday afternoon, and for most of the match a large flag belonging to Pilgrims fan Josh Butler hung on the perimeter fence behind a goal.
However, it went missing at some point during the 90 minutes, and after an appeal via social media on Sunday for its return fell on deaf ears Quakers fan Kevin Luff decided to take action.
He asked for donations and over the course of this morning Darlington supporters raised £100 to cover the cost of a new flag for Butler.
He said: “Huge thanks to Darlington fans for their generosity. Gone way above and beyond to sort me a replacement out. Boston United, can we please bear this in mind and sort out some deal for their fans when they visit us in January.”
Luff added: “I was extremely disappointed when I read about the situation on social media, that’s not what our club is about. While it’s obviously a tiny minority, I felt we had to do something.
“I knew as soon as I put the tweet out asking for some money that fellow supporters would step up and put things right, I wasn’t disappointed.”
