JUST a week after undergoing a hernia operation, Newcastle striker Michael Owen has been called into the England squad for next week's double header.
England face Estonia on Saturday before going to Russia.
Owen was expected to miss out the international games and make his return to action for Newcastle against Tottenham on October 20.
However, England coach Steve McClaren has spoken to Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce and has given the striker the green light.
Now there is the possibility of Owen appearing for Newcastle against Everton on Sunday.
"I'm delighted he is available,'' said McClaren. "He's trained with the physios this week and he will be assessed in training. If he is fit, he will play.
"I spoke to Sam this morning and it's never been a problem. Michael will be assessed by Newcastle and England and the decision hasn't been taken lightly.''
Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing is also included.
