MIDDLESBROUGH are hoping that both Mido and TunÃay Sanli could yet be fit enough to feature against Manchester City this weekend.
The strikers are both nursing injuries that had looked like keeping them out of Sunday's game at the City of Manchester Stadium.
TunÃay has been struggling with an ankle problem since last month's 2-2 draw with Sunderland, while Mido hobbled out of last weekend's defeat at Everton and had publicly claimed that he was unlikely to be involved against City.
Neither player is certain to start on Sunday but, with Dong-Gook Lee still struggling to adapt to the pace of life in the Premier League and 20-year-old Tom Craddock lacking experience at the highest level, Boro officials are hoping that the duo will be fit enough to feature.
"All we can do is give them as long as we possibly can," said first-team coach Colin Cooper. "Obviously, we want people fit and if the medical staff dictate they can turn out on the training pitch on Friday then we can pick them for Sunday. But if they don't, there's nothing we can do about it.
"We'll know later in the week which ones turn out on the training pitch and that will be the only time we as coaches know when they'll be fit to play.
"I don't think Mido's got any tear of any description so it's a case of giving him every opportunity.
"TunÃay was out on the training pitch (yesterday) having a jog round so you just don't know. If they're fit, they'll play, if they're not, they won't."
Meanwhile, Championship club Norwich City have confirmed their interest in signing in-demand Boro defender Andrew Davies.
Hull City have already offered to take Davies on loan to the KC Stadium with a view to a permanent £1m deal, and Southampton are also understood to have expressed an interest in the Stockton-born 22-year-old.
Norwich yesterday became the latest club to confirm their interest, with Canaries boss Peter Grant expressing his desire to add Davies to his club's defensive ranks.
"Davies is a player we admire and we have made an inquiry about him," said Grant. "But that's as far as it's gone. We'll wait and see what happens on that one."
