DANNY Rowe netted a stoppage-time penalty as AFC Fylde secured a dramatic 2-1 victory at Harrogate in the National League.

Rowe - who had hit the bar in the first half - opened the scoring two minutes after the break, converting a 30-yard free-kick for his 17th goal of the season.

He then wasted a great opportunity to double his side's lead when he saw his spot-kick saved by Harrogate goalkeeper James Belshaw in the 68th minute.

Harrogate made them pay in the 82nd minute when substitute Mark Beck levelled on the half-volley before Fylde were awarded a second penalty in time added on.

Rowe stepped up again and made no mistake, with the home side then having Liam Kitching dismissed for two bookings in quick succession. It was a fourth loss in five games for Harrogate, who stay sixth.

Harrogate: Belshaw; Howe, Kerry, Langmead, Falkingham, Kitching, Woods, Burrell, Leesley, Knowles (Williams 70), Muldoon (Beck 57). Subs (not used): Thomson, Emmett, Cracknell.

GATESHEAD and Halifax shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the International Stadium.

The Shaymen got off to a fantastic start as they stormed forward from kick-off and Ben Tomlinson crossed for Jordan Preston to nudge in a goal after 18 seconds.

Surprisingly the remainder of the first half remained tight, but Mark Foden kept Gateshead in it when he reacted superbly to tip another Preston shot on to the crossbar.

The Heed levelled midway through the second half with a great move. Jon Mellish fed JJ O'Donnell down the left, who crossed to Luke Armstrong.

The striker back-heeled beautifully into the path of Scott Boden for a simple finish past Sam Johnson and that was enough to keep them seventh.

Gateshead: Foden, Tinkler, Hunter, Rigg, Williamson, Kerr, Armstrong, Mellish, O’Donnell, Boden, Molyneux. Subs (not used): Thomson, Salkeld, Forbes, Devitt, Lumsden.

YORK City boss Sam Collins admitted he was “devastated” by the nature of his side’s 2-1 defeat at Blyth Spartans.

Former Minsterman and Middlesbrough man Bradley Fewster grabbed the 83rd-minute winner for the hosts in controversial circumstances, with half of the away team still celebrating a disallowed Macaulay Langstaff goal at the other end.

Earlier, City had recovered from falling behind to a 15th-minute Sean Reid penalty as Jake Wright levelled to send the sides into the break on level terms.

But Langstaff and Wright also aimed simple chances straight at home keeper Peter Jameson during the first period, before Fewster condemned Collins’ seventh-bottom men to a sixth straight National League North away defeat and a ninth loss in 14 fixtures, marking a dismal end to 2018.

Collins said: “I’m devastated. I was pleased with the way we went about the game in the first half and, aside from the silly penalty we gave away, I didn’t think they looked like scoring, but we had some really good chances and could have killed the game off by half-time.

“Then, for their winning goal, we were out of shape because we were celebrating what we thought was a goal and that’s so tough to take. It felt like a real kick in the teeth, because there wasn’t much difference between ourselves and a team that have been doing really well.”

YORK: Bartlett; Dyer, Bencherif, Digle, Ferguson, Agnew, Law (Ironside 87), Moke (Heslop 80), Wright (Harris 78), Burrow, Langstaff. Subs (not used): Davis, Whitley.
