HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-1-3-2):
6 Loach: Made the save he was requirted to do and it was pleasing to see the keeper looking to distribute the ball quicker;
4 Rodgers: Didn’t have much impact going forward, which is what the new manager wants. More impressive in the middle of defence the week before
7 Davies: A safe return to the side, strong in the middle, competed and defended like he is expected to – no frills
8 MAGNAY: Accomplished display in the back four, fully committed throughout and willing and able to bring the ball out of defence when he had the opportunity
6 Kitching: Again showed how happier he is as a left back than a wing-back. Started deep and allowed to get on the front foot at the right times;
5 Featherstone: In front of the back four he was available for possession, but did Pools need a sitting midfielder in there ?
7 Donaldson: At times, second-half especially, he looked like the player most likely to get Pools going as he drove at the visitors from deep
5 Noble: Busy in possession, but his set-piece delivery, both from corners and free-kicks, was especially disappointing
5 McLaughlin: Didn’t get his head up to get on the front foot and while he kept the ball at times, he never hurt the opposition;
5 Muir: Ran the channels for the ball when he needed to and was mobile up top. When he had shooting chances, he lacked the power to test the keeper
6 James: A typical afternoon of frustration – battered and bruised by the centre-halves with little protection. Had a couple of shooting chances running from deep.
Subs:
Richardson (for Rodgers 46): Did get forward at the instruction of the manager to give Pools more width 6
Hawkes (for Featherstone 74)
Newton (for James 81)
(not used): Anderson, Richardson, Hawkins.
HAVANT AND WATERLOOVILLE (4-4-2): Dudzinski 5; Strugnell 7, Harris 6, Cordner 7, Williams 6; Lewis 5 (Tarbuck 46, 6), Frost 6, Stock 6 (Paul 45, 5), Robinson 6; Kabamba 6, Rutherford 5 (Wood 54, 5). Subs (not used): Woodford, Bradley, Paul.
MAN OF THE MATCH: Carl Magnay, set the standards at the back with some committed and strong defending.
