Guisborough Town maintained their unbeaten second division record thanks to an unusual own goal at Penrith on Saturday.

The Priorymen clinched the points courtesy of a long throw in by midfielder Paul Jack that Penrith keeper Craig Summersgill failed to hold, and he fumbled the ball into his own net.

Guisborough manager Dean Coates said: "We checked with the referee after the game, and he told me that it would have to go down as an own goal, because you can't score direct from a throw in unless somebody else touches the ball."

Thanks to Summersgill's clanger, Guisborough are second, three points behind leaders Birtley Town.

In the first division, West Auckland midfielder Danny Richmond is facing a suspension for giving a false name to the referee when he was booked at West Allotment.

Jonjo Dickman scored direct from a free-kick to put them in the lead, and then he finished off a good move for the second.

But Nissan hit back, and former Luton youngster Sean Ross set up Gavin Cogdon to score with a low shot.

The game turned on its head at the start of the second half.

Ex-Darlington midfielder Richard Hodgson crossed for Cogdon to equalise, then Cogdon completed his hat-trick with a header. But Consett's Steve Johnson headed his eighth league goal of the season in the dying minutes.
