WOLVES are ready to test Adama Traore’s desire stay with Middlesbrough by meeting the player’s release clause.
It has become well documented that the flying 22-year-old winger has a clause in his deal that will allow him to leave if a certain price if offered.
That sum is reported to be around the £18m mark, although it is believed it can vary depending on different factors such as the club involved.
There has not been any concrete bids so far for the former Aston Villa and Barcelona player, although it is only a matter of time before there is.
And Wolves, with less than three weeks remaining until the transfer window closes, look certain to be the first club to test the water.
The Premier League new-boys hope the prospect of returning to the English top-flight will be enough to persuade him to head to Molineux for a new challenge.
But Middlesbrough will be doing what they can to keep him, having seen how hard he has worked during pre-season and he has a good relationship with Tony Pulis.
Pulis is determined to steer Boro back to the Premier League in his first full campaign in charge and he knows exactly how important Traore could be to that.
Middlesbrough are still looking at wingers to sign, including West Brom’s Matt Phillips, but they would prefer to keep Traore after the huge improvements he made in a short space of time under Pulis.
The Middlesbrough boss, whose side play a friendly at Accrington on Saturday afternoon, is looking to add new players in a number of areas.
He feels he needs another full-back and one of his leading targets in that area could be about to have his valuation reduced. Bristol City have been quoting teams £10m for Joe Bryan, while Middlesbrough have been reluctant to match it.
Bryan, though, has entered the final year of his deal and the Robins, who rate him highly, are considering lowering the asking price to see what happens.
Middlesbrough head to Accrington with Pulis taking the squad which returned from Germany on Friday. That means there will be a few youngsters involved in the first team, like Lewis Wing who scored against Augsburg on Wednesday.
